Virginia Shirley Paintings and Impressions
Virginia welcomes visitors to her painting studio and gallery in the Kentuck Art Center in Northport, Alabama, just across the Black Warrior River from Tuscaloosa and the University of Alabama. A second private studio in northeast Alabama overlooks a year-round spring branch flowing through the Cumberland Mountains on its way to the beautiful Paint Rock River
Her work has been featured in galleries, accepted into juried exhibitions, honored with awards, and included in private and public collections from Washington State to Florida.
Virginia’s work has appeared in galleries and shows in:
- New Orleans and Monroe, Louisiana
- Destin and Pensacola, Florida
- Montgomery, Monroeville, and Dauphin Island, Alabama
- Ocean Springs, Biloxi, Vicksburg, Jackson, Greenwood, and Madison, Mississippi
Her subjects are painted exclusively in oils as she creates her abstract expressionist larger paintings. But she also works from onsite sketches, photos, and plein air paintings from the Gulf of Mexico and Caribbean beaches to Venice, the Italian countryside in Southern Italy and Spain, as well as a range of florals and still lifes to celebrate common objects such as a bundle of asparagus or an oyster shell.
Virginia’s work is a feature of the Bayou Rouge Bistro on Broad Street in Selma, Alabama.
